London Wheat Report
US Planting and Harvest Progress
London wheat posted modest gains despite US markets opening lower overnight before following suit, as US winter wheat plantings got off to a slow start, with 8% complete versus the five-year average of 12%. US corn harvest progress is also underway, printing at 8% complete as of Sunday versus the average analyst estimate of 9%. Progress is expected to remain somewhat sluggish over the next week due to weather delays; however, given that it is still early in the season, this is not yet considered a significant concern.
Brazil Forecasts Modest Crop Expansion
In Brazil, CONAB forecasts corn acreage growth in both the summer and winter seasons, putting total corn production for 2026/27 at 148 million tonnes, a 2.8% increase year-on-year. Soybean acreage is set to grow by 1.4% to 49.3 million hectares for the 2026/27 season, with production forecast at 181.6 million tonnes compared with 180.4 million tonnes in 2025/26. However, this is expected to represent the slowest pace of growth in 20 years.
Tender Activity
In tender news, Jordan decided to pass on its latest tender, whilst Algeria purchased at least 510,000 tonnes of soft wheat in a tender that closed on Tuesday, at prices ranging from $319 to $321 per tonne.
