London Wheat Report
London Wheat Trading Remains Subdued
A sluggish start to the week for London wheat, with only 144 lots passing through the exchange. Matif saw stronger volume flow, with the Dec-26 contract accounting for the lion’s share of the trading activity.
China Advances US Soybean Purchase Commitments
Across the pond, it has been reported that China has fulfilled more than half of its US soybean purchase pledge, offering a glimmer of hope for trade between the world’s two largest economies ahead of President Xi’s upcoming visit to Washington. Chinese state-owned and controlled traders booked at least 1 mmt of US-origin soybeans last week.
This latest buying has brought total purchases for the current season close to 13 mmt, more than half of the 25 mmt annual target that Washington says Beijing has committed to through 2028. The purchases come as Xi and Trump prepare to meet for a closely watched trade summit, their second this year, which is expected to take place in the US later this month. China has also pledged to buy at least $17 billion of US agricultural products in addition to its soybean purchases, with the figure prorated for 2026, according to the White House earlier this year.
Ukrainian Grain Exports Trail Last Year
According to the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry, the country has exported 4.34 mmt of grain since the start of the season on 1 July. This figure is down 24% year on year. Of this total, wheat exports are reported at 2.1 mmt, down approximately 48% year on year, reflecting ongoing challenges in the Black Sea region.
