The November contract on London remained unchanged, whilst the carry to May 27 narrowed by another 25p on thin volume ahead of this evening’s report. MATIF traded mixed whilst US grains markets posted a strong day, which also marks month and quarter end as well as first notice day for July contracts.

The EU Commission report soft wheat exports since the start of the 2025/26 season last July had reached 23.17 mmts by June 28, compared with 21.47 million a year earlier. Barley exports totalled 8.70 mmts, vs 5.18 mmts in the corresponding period in 2024/25, while EU maize imports were at 18.22 mmts, against a year-earlier 19.70 million. Meanwhile, Maize production in France could fall by up to 30% this year after a record heatwave damaged some crops and farmers planted less of the cereal, according to growers group AGPM. This echoes comments made by the Agriculture Ministry last week, which puts production of grain maize to a 26-year low of 9.5 mmts.

Statscan reduced Canada’s total wheat planting intentions by 5.9% to 25.3 million acres compared to 26.9 million in 2025, lending broad support. In addition, one USDA flash reported sales of 100,000 mts of hard red spring wheat for delivery to Nigeria during the 26/27 marketing year, whilst two South Korean milling groups bought 100,000 mmts of milling wheat from the United States in an international tender.
