ADMISI London Wheat Report for 22 April

London Wheat Report

Hopefully, everyone had a good long weekend and the Easter Bunny made an appearance!

Rising water levels on the Rhine have given some positive news for shipping after extreme lack of rain in March and April resulted in low water levels hampering April shipping on all of the river south of Duisburg and Cologne, including the chokepoint of Kaub. Rain over the Easter weekend has led to increased capacity for vessels although there is still some room for improvement.

US farmers made significant progress in planting corn and soybeans last week, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data released on Monday. Here’s a breakdown.

  • Corn Planting: Farmers planted 12% of the nation’s corn crop by April 20, surpassing the five-year average of 10% and beating analysts’ expectations of 10% completion. This progress is slightly faster than last year’s pace of 11% and the five-year average.
  • Soybean Planting: Growers planted 8% of the soybean crop, exceeding the five-year average of 5%. However, it fell slightly short of analysts’ expectations of 7% completion.

Despite this progress, wet weather forecast in parts of the US Midwest is likely to slow corn planting this week, this however didn’t give Corn any go today as it is currently trading down 4 cents. The USDA also reported that the condition of winter wheat crops deteriorated due to dryness in the US Plains, with 45% of the crops rated in good or excellent condition.

London Wheat May 25 hits its FND on Thursday 24.04.25.
