London Wheat Report
A mixed day today for London wheat, with the theme of stronger volumes over the past few days not being applied to today. Market participants appeared hesitant to engage fully across global wheat markets, with both MATIF and Chicago volumes lower. London ended the day slightly down on the front month and flat on the May-27 contract, with Nov-27 losing £0.50 on last night’s settlement.
European Commission data released today showed EU soft wheat exports in the 2026/27 season had reached 570,990 metric tonnes by July 26, up from 466,908 tonnes a week earlier, but this figure is still 61% down year on year. So far, Lithuania is the largest EU soft wheat exporter so far in 2026/27 with 144,913 tonnes, followed by Germany (121,070 tonnes). As ever with EU stats, it is worth noting that export data has been incomplete for France since the beginning of 2024 and Bulgaria since the start of the 2023/24 marketing year. So far, the main destination for EU soft wheat exports for 2026/27 has been Nigeria.
Across the pond, Chicago corn rose across the day today, recouping some of the previous session’s losses after a U.S. government report lowered crop ratings following hot and dry weather, while soybeans eased, tracking losses in oil prices. Wheat prices inched lower, but disruptions to grain shipments from the Black Sea region were seemingly supportive.
